At Perfect Search, our analysts have a knack for knowing account metrics. Search & Social Analyst Mayank Mathur also has a secret knack for knowing every single Friends episode title. Get to know Mayank in his team member spotlight.
1) What's your favorite work task? What's your most challenging work task?
My favorite work task is preparing for deep dives. A deep dive is when our whole team takes a look at an account and shares strategies and ideas.
It's just refreshing to take a break from your own accounts and look into ones that aren't yours. It's also liberating because your mind isn't on outstanding tasks that you have to do for the client and I find it easier to think of creative solutions. I also love analyzing different websites for CRO/UX.
On the other hand, I dread meta data optimizations. They're particularly challenging because it's almost a creative task because you're technically writing important content, but the character count is frustratingly restraining. And usually, meta data optimizations are done in batches and can be done for a lot of URLs at once so at some point it becomes too monotonous to really enjoy.
2) How has your SEO/PPC knowledge changed how you perceive the world?
After working on SEO-related projects, I'm a lot more aware of how search engines rank websites and the different tools that websites can use to build themselves up. I find myself constantly analyzing websites I surf in my free time and looking for CTAs, optimized content, etc.
In a broader sense, I think working on PPC and SEO projects has modified my thought process. I'm a very instinctive person and a lot of times I 'feel' my way through problems rather than think about the details. But working with, and analyzing, numbers has taught me to slow down, think at a more granular level, and wonder about the causes and effects of problems.
Whenever I look at statistics outside of work, I always feel the need to look at more numbers in order to paint a complete picture and am a lot quicker to point out inconsistencies in data.
3) What was the best minute of your life?
Wow, that's super specific. Honestly, I've had a lot of 'best minutes' but the one that immediately jumps to mind is the 30 seconds before and after my 21st birthday last year in March.
I was with a group of 20 friends in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and we were in this amazing club on our last night in the city. My friends, who were all gathered around me, started a countdown 20 seconds before the clock struck 12. It was absolutely terrific being surrounded by my closest friends on my 21st and needless to say, we had a fantastic time afterward. Also, did I mention it was senior year spring break?!
4) What's your favorite Perfect Search memory?
During my short time with PSM, I've already racked up a few great memories. The most recent offsite stands out so I'm going to go for that one.
We had an overnight offsite in a rented Airbnb in Indiana, and the location was incredible. It was a massive barn with an indoor basketball court, a pool table, retro decorations, and super comfortable couches.
It was great fun getting out of the office, hanging out with everyone, playing board games, and of course, playing slap cup and flip cup. Barring the uncomfortable bus rides to and from the barn, it was a really great trip.
5) What does your ultimate movie marathon involve? What's on the must-watch list? Any must-have snacks?
Movie marathons are, by definition, a major time investment, so if I am going to indulge in one, I'd rather make an event out of it. I'd definitely want to watch a movie series so that I'd witness an entire saga unfold from beginning to end; it'd just add to the drama and hype.
Series that immediately come to mind are The Dark Knight trilogy, Star Wars, Rocky, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and the latest Bond movies (Daniel Craig is #1, always).
Depending on how sensitive I'm feeling and the kind of mood I'm in, I'd also love to re-watch the Before Sunrise, Sunset, and Midnight movies. Seriously, if you haven't seen them yet, you should do it ASAP; they're beautifully written and acted.
Movies are usually an emotional and intellectual investment for me. To keep myself going I'd need a pepperoni pizza with black olives from Dominos, and some chips. I'd be happy with either salted Lays, Flamin' Hot Cheetos, or Cheetos Cheese Puffs.
